Our creations start as a lump of raw stoneware clay, which receives a sprinkle of inspiration and a cup of shaping experience to form the clay into a functional vessel. Our creations are created using our hands on a pottery wheel or a pottery ware board.
After drying slowly beneath plastic from raw clay to 'leather hard' we smooth and trim the piece. If needed, this is the stage any additions or modifications are added to the original piece, such has handles and decorations. Finally, the piece is allowed to dry completely before being placed in the kiln.
Once the first firing is completed, we remove the piece and check for any cracks or dings. If the piece is intact, the piece is wiped clean of any clay dust. Next, the bisque fired piece receives the glaze vision to match it's form. This can range from one single color to elaborate visions with 7-8 colors!
Once the glaze piece is dry, the piece is returned to the kiln for a second firing to Cone 6. After the kiln cools, it is opened to show the final piece, hoping and praying it matches the vision and has no new cracks. Finally, we are able to share the creation with our customers.
